History of Hashing
The Hash House Harriers are an International Group founded in 1938 with over 70,000 active worldwide members. The Zürich Hash House Harriers kennel (group) were reformed on May 16 1990 by Sara “Rolling Stone” Moss (Pittsburgh HHH) and David Wilson (Edinburgh HHH) and has been going strong ever since.
We are a very socially focused running and walking club. We come in all speeds and fitness, and the distances vary by event – though most Thursday are between 6 and 8 kilometers in Zurich. It’s a great opportunity to meet new friends and even find people to travel internationally with, with the large number of Hash international events. Many of our more athletic members regularly plan to attend races together in Switzerland and around the world.
Our kennel meets regularly every Thursday evening at 7pm around Zurich, and on the 1st Saturday and the 3rd Sunday of every month. We pride ourselves in bringing together both expats and our local Swiss friends to socialize and enjoy the amazing places around the canton.
The main prerequisites to enjoy a Hash outing are a sense of humor, willingness to meet new people, open-mindedness, tolerance and a general sense of fun. Good willed and light hearted comedic immaturity is a bonus. We are mainly English-speaking within the group to accommodate people of all nationalities, but many of us speak at least some German and since we are comprised of a large group of expats other languages, too.
For our youngest additions to the Zürich Hash, we have the Zurich Hash House Horrors. This is a family hash, with child and pram friendly trails and child friendly circles. The HHHorrors meet on the last weekend of the month.
